Writing The Personal Essay
Isn’t it interesting that I’ve been writing about flash non-fiction – and encouraging readers of the Art of Extraordinary Writing to try their hand at the form – – and a week later I receive a press release about an author who “breathes new life into a neglected form through masterfully crafted, universally relatable, and deeply personal essays”?
The author is Mark J. Ehlers, a former federal prosecutor and current managing director of a corporate investigations firm. Mark’s book, Life Goes On, is a collection of personal essays, written during 2011 and 2012, that reflect Mark’s experiences, among them being a parent of two college-aged daughters, the disappointment of lost time and unmet dreams, and the author’s life-long bond with baseball.
I’ll be reviewing Mark’s book next week – stay tuned. And in the meantime, how’s your Beautiful Writing Revolution going?
