Be Yourself, Even if you Have a Social Media Planner (Like Me)

Follow Nancy Hendrickson on TwitterYou may be tired of my talking about the Obama campaign and social media – - but having followed the SMB (social media blitz) for several months, I knew these guys were the top guns for using various social media channels to get out the word about the candidate and get out the vote.

Now, as companies FINALLY get the idea that being on social media sites is critical, we’ve suffered through the good (the companies like the Boston burrito company who uses Twitter to give away discount coupons), and the ugly (you know who I mean – those people/companies that hammer you every blankety-blank day with nothing but links to stuff they’re selling.

Where was I going with this?  Oh yeah! – - I read a great post over at Twitip this morning on the importance of being you.  Lots of companies (and very busy entrepreneurs) hire people to tweet or facebook for them (I’ve done some of that ghost-posting myself) – - but what they don’t seem to realize is no matter how good a writer I am (and my fifth book is coming out in August!), I do not have your heart, soul, or passion – - and while  I will sound authentic in terms of my knowledge, tips, or discount offers, I believe a little "je ne sais quoi" magic is lost in the ghosting.

Is this post simply a self-serving push for my own social media marketing planner services? Not really.  It’s just my voicing a fervent belief (for about the millionth time) that doing business – whether on Twitter or selling books out of the trunk of your car – is all about being your genuine self – - AND sincerely liking the guy who comes over and wants to talk to you about your product or service.

Start building relationships by being the real YOU – - I know it’s scary to be so self-revealing online (unless you’re an Ed Dale kind of guy) – - but  in this Social Media Era (SME), it’s time to dump the mask and let us all know the real you.  I’ll like you more for it – and you know we ALL want to do business with people we know and trust.

I just wondering what type of entrepreneur are you talking about in here? I believe most business can hire an employee as part of their business marketing plan.

However if we are talking about blogger, I agree with you. Blogger should be able to post in facebook and twitter, unless those bloggers want to reduce work load. We cannot do anything in a short time, right?
