The guys over at WikiTalk sent me info about their new social network.  Here’s the skinny:

Most Internet users have heard of social networking, but relatively few are actively participating in social networks. This is probably because most of the current social network sites target tech-savvy young men and hard-core news junkies, and are heavily weighted toward technology, geek culture, academia, and news.

Targeting “the rest of us” is WikiTalk.com, the new social networking site that brings together a comprehensive listing of the most active and most popular discussions including gossip, videos, entertainment, lifestyle, sports and politics; and with chatter that folks should find a lot cleaner. But WikiTalk is more than just a social site. In an industry first, the downloadable WikiTalk Browser Add-On enables “split-screen” functionality, which allows visitors to create their own public or private discussion boards on any other website — and on any topic — by “framing” comments around the source news at that website, even if that site doesn’t have a comments feature of its own. This creates a much smoother, seamless and more powerful experience.

Using the WikiTalk Browser Add-On, you can also create your own groups (private or public) and invite friends to join the discussions online. For example, if you’re passionate about Ford Mustangs, you could create a group wrapped around that topic, then add a number of related websites to the group and invite friends and people with similar interests to join the group.

Or create group discussions at work, for clubs, leagues, etc. WikiTalk is highly interactive and community-focused with “Juice” rankings so members can rank current topics, comments and replies, and more. Juice measures how important, compelling, or interesting a user or a discussion or topic has become.

At WikiTalk you can post opinions without registering, but users who do sign up can vote on their favorites, track their own progress on the site via Juice, create and manage groups, and enjoy added credibility among their online peers.

WikiTalk officially launches October 22.
