Bio
Nancy Hendrickson is the owner and operator of Green Pony Press, Inc., providing professional writing & marketing services to small businesses and entrepreneurs. Green Pony Press is based in San Diego, California, with clients across the United States.
Background
Nancy Hendrickson is a Midwesterner by birth and a Californian by fate (her parents moved to San Diego when she was in grade school). She’s the author of five non-fiction books (two historical, one family history, and two on the science of astronomy). She’s also a zealous digital photographer, so-so stunt kite flyer, and dabbler in exporing the ghosts of America’s historic destinations.
When not working on a book or with her private marketing clients, Nancy writes and photographs for two hobby blogs. She has a passion for frontier history, always looking for new Photoshop techniques to capture the essence of place.
I became interested enough to study marketing several years ago, when I realized that authors have to depend on SELF to sell books. Naive as I was at the time, I actually thought just getting my name on a book and getting it into the bookstore was enough. Ha!
Over the years, I’ve developed a marketing savvy that combines Web 2.0 and 3.0 technology with hands-on experience in marketing my own books and articles. Since then, I’ve worked with dozens of authors and entrepreneurs in crafting personalized, authentic (true to the client’s voice) marketing plans and action calendars.
[My official bio stops here, but one of my friends told me I needed to flesh it out more; longer version below]
Ramblings about me
I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family that cherished the past; my two grandmothers got me hooked on family tree stuff when I was about 8. After all, who could resist listening to tales of Indians, pioneers, Civil War heroes, and horse thieves. Certainly not me!
All these years later I still get a thrill out of visiting historic places, reading old journals, and imagining myself on a barge going down the Ohio, or taking part in a heated debate over Lincoln’s election.
I remember sitting on the grass at Ft. Robinson in Nebraska, and watching in my mind’s eye as Crazy Horse and his band meandered down from the pine bluffs to the parade ground in front of me; or visiting the Little Bighorn in rain and snow, heat and wind – each time filling my senses with the stillness.
Not that I’m always that studious . . .
There’s also the kid in me who revels in flying a stunt kite, dumping my canoe in the Niobrara, hauling my backside up a climbing wall, and testing the firmness of the ground as got as close as possible to the edge of a 300-foot cliff overlooking the Pacific. Dumb. I know.
Of course, being a Renaissance woman, there’s really nothing that escapes my notice. Astronomy (I want to walk on the moon), noetics (thank you Dan Brown), herbalism, technology (I’m the original gadget girl), electronics, web analytics, marketing, cats, archery, hiking (when my back is behaving), Port Townsend, publishing, and medicine.
Do you think I’ll ever have enough time to write about it all???
